Going for it!

During our first few weeks of school, we had lots of conversations about what we wanted to accomplish this year.  We recorded our goals on our "hands" shown in the picture above.  We talked about why it is so important to set goals and reflect on them.  Here's a great article by Zig Ziglar on goal setting.

I was so touched when several students wanted to "fill a bucket every day..." as they remembered a book I had read the previous week by McLoud and Messing, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?  A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids." (More information here.)

As we began to reflect on those goals we posted, we decided that we wanted to identify some group goals as well.  We're all in this together, as Habit #6 reminds us:
Habit #6 — Synergize - Together Is Better
I value other people’s strengths and learn from them. I get along well with others, even people who are different than me. I work well in groups. I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than anyone of us can alone. I am humble.

When we work together, we all can win, as we know from this habit:
 Habit #4 — Think Win-Win - Everyone Can Win
I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others’ Emotional Bank Accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for third alternatives.

Now, we want you to weigh in on one of our class goals.  How many books should we read this year?  Click here to tell us!

We can't wait to get started on reaching our goal!
